Yo, let’s dive into this banger! ๐ถ It’s got the grit, the heat, the “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Even the title has that rhyme drip with the bandโs name, no cap.
So get this, right? This hit almost didnโt happen. Stallone, yeah the Rocky dude, was feeling “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen for his flick, but they were like, “Nah, fam”. So he got this instead, and what a switch-up it was! ๐
“Eye of the Tiger” is cooking with an ABAC rhyme scheme for the verse, while it’s giving ABCABD for the chorus. ๐จโ๐ณ It could’ve been ABCABC, but the crew switched it up last minute. They decided to end with “tiger” instead of “survival”, breaking the rhyme with “rival”. They thought “tiger” could stand on its own, and Iโm like, “facts”.
One line that got me shook is: “So many times it happens too fast; You change your passion for glory”. I mean, are they saying the passion for glory changes, or that they’re exchanging their passion for glory? To me, you can’t find glory without passion, right? Like, if you ditch what you love for cash, that ainโt gonna get you glory.
So I’m vibing with this line and I check out what “glory” means: “Praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent : renown”. Makes sense when you consider the song was written for Rocky III. The songwriters even got a sneak peek of the movie, including the opening montage where their track was gonna play.
So hereโs the tea: in the opening scene, Clubber Lang (played by Mr. T, Google him) is on the grind while Rocky’s slacking off. Rocky’s busy being boujee, doing ads, flexing his fame, while Clubber’s out here being thirsty. So yeah, Rocky did change his passion (boxing) for glory (fame). ๐ฎโ๐จ
I stan Rocky, Creed, and this song. Breaking it down with you all has been bussinโ. Thanks for letting me spill the tea on this track. Catch you next time! ๐ค๐ค
Remember, always keep your grip on the dreams of the past. In the words of Survivor, “You must fight just to keep them alive.” Now that’s a vibe check!
